Every day, for one hour of the evening, between 7pm and 8pm, no radio in the country can be heard transmitting the strumming of a guitar or the harmony of voices singing. The hour is reserved exclusively for one program: A Voz do Brasil, or 'The Voice of Brazil', in which news relating to the three branches of government - executive, legislative and judiciary - is presented. The show begins each session with the emblematic phrase, 'Em Brasília, 19 horas', which translates as 'In Brasília, 7pm', Brasília being the capital of Brazil and has run for over 80 years across the country. It came to fruition in 1935 under the government of Getúlio Vargas, created by the president's childhood friend, Armando Campos, who wished to present the government's work and actions in a good light. | one day in rio | |||
